Whangamata - The Rock
Today I had a 'Daddy daughter day'. I was so lucky. Day and Toni drove me all the way to Whanga to play in the white sand. I took my bucket and spade and couldn't wait to get in my wet suit and get down to business at the beach.
When we arrived Daddy took my straight the park. It was a little babbyish for me, but I enjoyed sliding down on my stomach on the little tiny blue slide.
After the park Dad went to Pete Anderson's surf shop to pick up his custom surf board - I have to admit, the spray was pretty cool.
After a quick toilet stop we headed to the Estuary. We were the only ones on the beach so I went crazy. As soon as my wetsuit was on I started running. I ran down to the water, not too close, because the waves are scarey. Then I ran up the sand dunes and slid down them. Dad made it even more fun be pulling my legs as I slid down. Building sand castles took up the next hour and Toni let me help her build this huge mud pool which eventually collapsed.
I felt really brave when Dad took me out into the breakers. We found this huge rock (which I will show you soon). When I stood on top of it I felt like I was surfing.. and I was.... I was surfing this huge rock.
After lunch we went to the 'Other side", well that's what Dad said.
Not long after we pulled up under a tree, jumped out of the car and started walking out towards the pipis and cockles. (Apparently they are shellfish you can eat). I was so cold I started shaking. I just followed Dad, stuck close to him, while he dug for pipis and shellfish. I quickly understood what he was doing so I joined in as well. We thought we saw a sea snake, but it was just seaweed. Dad got a fright and Antonia started giggling.
When we walked back to the car I said "We saw no sharks". Dad said thank goodness for that.
The cafe was the last bit of our road trip. I got this really fancy fluffy. I wanted Muzz buzz, but I can only get these after swimming". This was really delicious. Dad's was even more delicious. I think I drank more than him.
Thanks for a great daddy daughter day Dad. And for taking cool photos.
